    Calendula Officinalis is native to Southern European countries. Calendula Officinalis comes from Latin Calendae, which means “the first day of the month”.

    Another name for Calendula is Pot Marigold and refers to its gold flowers that bloomed during the festivals celebrating the Virgin Mary.

    Medicinally Calendula had many uses in Europe and America throughout the history and today. Calendula was named “Herb of the Year” in 2008 by the International Herb Association. Pot Marigold is a perennial herb with many medical, cosmetic and culinary uses with following properties: antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiviral, analgesic, angiogenic, anti-edemic, antispasmodic, anti-tumor, cardiotonic, dermagenic, astringent, bitter, hemostatic, hypotensive, immunostimulant, lymphatic, tonic.

    External use:

    Ideal for all kinds of skin problems such as: acne, dermatitis, eczema sores, psoriasis, rosacea, chickenpox, impetigo, wounds, burns, minor cuts, broken capillaries, yeast infection, gingivitis, athlete’s foot, varicose veins, nappy rash, skin treating after radiation.

    Internal use:

    Due of its anti-inflammatory and spasmolitic effect it is used with great effect in mouth ulcers and gastric ulcers as well as in diverticulitis, hepatitis and swollen glands in folk medicine. In the treatments of liver disorder, it removes toxin from the body. Mildly estrogenic, calendula helps in menstrual problems and pelvic inflammatory process.

    It is ideal for irritated, dehydrated, dry and delicate skin as its saponines and mucilage have humectant properties. Due to presence of carotenoids (mostly lutein-80%, zeaxantin-5% and beta-carotene) in its chemical composition, it has great re-epithelization properties, making it ideal for general healing, wound healing, eczemas as well as fighting the signs of aging. The presence of essential oil and salicylic acid gives it a microbical and anti-oxidizing action, which results in an antiseptic action excellent for any infections including acnes, bee, wasp and other insect signs. Many view this flower as powerful skin regeneration and anti-aging ingredient, because it has proven to stimulate the metabolism of glycoproteins, nucleoproteins and collagen during the skin healing process. Calendula will leave your skin soft to the touch.
